Most commercial vehicles in India are bought on finance. A better rate and the right tenure can make the difference between a truck that pays for itself and one that strains your cash flow.
What lenders look at
- Credit score and repayment history — the single biggest factor in your rate.
- Experience — first-time buyers often need a guarantor or a higher down payment.
- Income proof — ITR, GST returns, bank statements or transport contracts.
- The truck itself — new trucks get higher funding; for used trucks, age and condition matter.
Ways to lower your cost
- Pay a larger down payment. It reduces the loan amount and often gets you a better rate.
- Pick a tenure that matches earnings. A longer tenure lowers the EMI but increases total interest. Choose the shortest tenure your monthly income can comfortably handle.
- Compare at least three lenders — banks and NBFCs price differently.
- Read the fine print: processing fees, foreclosure charges and insurance bundled into the loan.
- Keep a buffer. Plan for at least two to three EMIs in reserve for slow months and repairs.
